The kitchen of the Altes Stadthaus is distinguished by regional, freshly prepared products. “Our guests should know where our sausages and meats come from! And our handmade bread rolls — from the baker we trust — speak for their own quality. Fresh to the table with wholesome ingredients: that’s our daily secret recipe.” For breakfast, you’ll find homemade jams and other ever-changing delicacies — for example, our own marinated sheep’s cheese.

We love colourful vegetables. But all in good time. In spring, we look forward to popular asparagus and strawberries; in summer, to vitamin-rich salads; in autumn, to a variety of mushrooms; and in winter, to all kinds of cabbage and kale. Our favourite place to shop is the weekly market in Westerstede, right on our doorstep. And we have regular deliveries from local suppliers in our region.
Now is the time to enjoy seasonal cabbages: from kale to Brussels sprouts to red cabbage — all vitamin-rich vegetables from the region. Short distances, no long supply chains. That’s something we value greatly. We also source the traditional sides for our kale dishes — such as Pinkel, Kochwurst, and smoked pork loin — from our regional suppliers.

Drawing on the history of the old grain distillery from 1813, we’ve developed our very own fine spirit: the Altes Stadthaus Tropfen. A hint of peach, honey, and mint turns the double-distilled grain spirit into a smooth, easy-drinking “shot”. Our house blessing: “Have a sip of this fine drop, and you too will be a true Westerstede local!”
Sweet little fruits. That’s what the strawberries from Warbandhof are. Whether as dessert, sprinkled into a salad, as tasty edible decoration on our dishes, or as homemade jam — strawberries are simply refreshing and delicious.

We get our handmade bread rolls, cakes, and bread from Bäckerei Piepers. Their ingredients come largely from the region, and they make their own grain blends in-house. Owner Andreas Piepers still uses some of his grandfather’s recipes — and the customers can taste it. Sugar rusks and ship’s biscuits are still baked with good butter, just as they used to be.
Our homemade Stadthaus sauces — served with meat and other dishes — are also a favourite. Our guests love all of our sauces, dips, and the delicious quark spread for bread, not only for their great taste, but also because they’re made without any additives or preservatives.

Sustainable wine trading! Wein Wolff has been working with wines for over 200 years. Founded in 1800, the family business is now run by the 7th generation, Jan Wolff. The company’s headquarters are located in the old town of Leer. Since 2020, Wein Wolff has also been one of the first wine-trading companies in Germany to be FAIR’N GREEN certified. As Jan Wolff puts it: “We believe true sustainability has to start with ourselves. It’s not enough to simply offer ‘good’ products — your own actions should be guided by sustainability.”
Fleischerei Fritz Luers from Westerstede supplies our kitchen daily with tasty and wholesome sausage products. For 50 years, the business has been known for its outstanding artisan quality. Owner Malte Luers personally knows the farmers from whom he sources the meat for his sausages and his Ammerländer Schinken. This ham is appreciated far beyond the region.
